City of Quartz summary

Reason 1 - Diverse racial composition
- The reason is because of all the mixes of latin american, asian, and european they ensured that the black freedom would develop a multiracial context.

Reason 2 - Dynamic economic growth
- They lost alot of the manufacturing jobs, they gained alot but also lost alot of miney because certain people couldnt work for their color or whatever.

Reason 3 - Dispersive spatial arrangement
- The dense population combined with proportionally small size of the black population the rigid racial segregation of the workplace, and the city's heavy dependence on private rather than public transportation, created an atmosphere which led to blacks and whites not getting along and allowing residential blacks to prewar in LA

Pashtuns and Hazaras in Afghanistan

1) What percentage of the population do Pashtuns and Hazaras make up in Afghanistan?
- The Hazaras take up about 9% of Afghanistan's population and Pashtuns take up about 45% of the population in Afghanistan.

2) Where do Pashtuns mainly live? What language do they speak?
- The pashtuns mainly live in Afghanistan and Pakistan and speak pashto.

3) Where do Hazaras mainly live? What language do they speak?
- Most Hazaras live in Afghanistan as well and scattered in other countries and they speak a form of persian language called, Dari.

4) What effect did the Soviet Invasion of 1979 have on the Pashtun/Hazara ethnic groups?
- When the soviet invasion began, the Hazaras fought against the communist governement and succeeded in liberating most of their homeland early in the begining of the civil war and for the Pashtuns were the ones who dominated on the factions of the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan up until mid 1991.

5) From what you read, why is there a conflict between Amir and Hassan? How does what you learned explained their relationship?
- Because they are Amir was the higher class (Pashtun) and Hassan was the lower class (Hazaras) so people were always wondering why Amir would hang out with him. It explains their relationship because since they're from two totally different classes it explains the reason they were treated differently and tells why Amir's dad was able to get him out of that city.

Skin Tone Test

What were your results?
- My results were that i perfer light skinned people rather than dark skinned people.

Were you surprised by your results? Why?
- Yeah cause im not really raciest but i just would rather be light skinned.

Why do you think your results were what they were?
- Cause i like my skin color

What does this suggest about implicit (hidden/not obvious/you don't talk about it) racism?
- that i like to be light skinned.

How might this connect to the concept of immigration?
- This connects because light skinned people might not want others in their country cause they just don't like them.
